Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new model-order reductiontechnique for linear dynamic systems. The idea behind thistechnique is to transform the dynamic system function fromthe s-domain into the z-domain via the bilinear transformation, then use Prony's [1, 2] or Shank's [3] least-squaresapproximation methods instead of the commonly employedPadé approximation method, and finally transform the reducedsystem back into the s-domain using the inverse bi-lineartransformation. Simulation results for large practicalsystems show that this technique based on Prony's andShank's methods give much higher accuracy than the traditionalPadé method, and result in lower-order approximationswith negligible increase in simulation time.
