Abstract

In today''s Internet, only best-effort service is provided. With up-coming Quality of Service (QoS) requirements raised by a wide range of communication-intensive, real-time multimedia applications, the best-effort service is no longer sufficient. As a result, Differentiated Service Model (DiffServ) has been proposed as a cost-effective way to provision QoS in the Internet. In this paper, we first briefly introduce the basic queueing and scheduling schemes in DiffServ. Then we focus on quantitative analysis on the performance of these schemes, in terms of the queueing delay and loss rate. UltraSAN is used as the analyzing tool and simulations are conducted. Our results show that the Premium class traffic, which has the highest priority, has significant influence on other classes of traffic.
