Abstract

The rapid growth of distributed component-based environments and coexistence of different application domains, such as multimedia and electronic commerce, present significant challenges to provision of their Quality of Service (QoS). One of the major challenges is how to provide a clean and systematic methodology for QoS specifications, translations, and negotiations, and how to compile QoS parameters in end-to-end fashion for different applications, running in heterogeneous computing and communication environments. In this paper, we present the distributed QoS compiler framework to provide a systematic methodology for QoS programing, including QoS specifications, and novel concepts of QoS translations for different applications in distributed component-based environments. This QoS compilation framework assists in an efficient way the end-to-end QoS setup and provision during an application run-time instantiation.
