Abstract

Mobile commerce is an emerging area involvingapplications, mobile devices, middleware, and wirelessnetworks.The applications may include mobile financialservices, user and location specific mobile advertising,mobile inventory management, wireless business re-engineering, and mobile interactive games.One importantrequirement of these applications is the support forlocation tracking of products, services, devices, andpeople.In this paper, we address this issue by presenting(a) the location requirements of the emerging m-commerce applications, [b] how these could be supportedby the existing and emerging wireless networks, and, (c) anew methodology to model m-commerce applicationsusing a generic m-commerce application to evaluate thelocation management overhead of various m-commerceapplications.
