Abstract

This paper proposes a new approach to locatingsoftware components from a large component repository:context-aware browsing. Without any explicit input fromsoftware developers, this approach automatically locatesand presents a list of software components that couldpossibly be used in the current development situation. Thisautomation of the component location process not onlygreatly reduces the search space of components so thatsoftware developers can easily browse and choose thedesired components, but also enables software developersto use components whose existence they do not evenanticipate. A software agent that supports context-awarebrowsing has been developed and evaluated.
