Abstract

This paper describes the Harness-PVM emulation modulethat makes it possible to run legacy PVM applicationswithin the Harness metacomputing system environment. Weshow benchmark results suggesting that component- andJava-based frameworks may provide substantial benefitswithout significantly compromising performance. Augmentingor implementing grids using such component based systemscan thus be advantageous in a number of situations.
