We present a design method (HASoC) for the lifecyclemodelling of embedded systems that are targetedprimarily, but not necessarily, at SoC implementations. The object-oriented development technique is based onour experiences of using an existing modelling technique(MOOSE) and supports a lifecycle that explicitlyseparates the behaviour of a system from its hardwareand software implementation technologies. The designprocess, which uses a UML-RT-based notation, beginswith the incremental development and validation of anexecutable model of a system. This model is thenpartitioned into hardware and software to create acommitted model, which is mapped onto a systemplatform. The methodology emphasises the reuse of pre-existinghardware and software platforms to ease thedevelopment process. An example application ispresented in order to illustrate the main concepts inHASoC.
