Abstract

With distributed simulation, existing simulations, even from different disciplines, can be reused or made tointeroperate. The efficiency of this technique is howevernot firmly established and it depends on the ability tosatisfy a number of requirements, especially concerningsimulation performance. The performance depends to alarge extent on the structure and scaling of architecturalcomponents of the simulation execution platform. In this paper, we present an approach to addressthis problem: the design of models to capture the maincharacteristics of distributed simulations, run-timeinfrastructures and network architectures, and thedevelopment of a tool to predict performances. This tool, which is a simulator of HLA simulations is written byusing HLA, and is evaluated on three test applications.
