Context-awareness is an important property ofapplications in ubiquitous computing andcommunication (ubicomp) environments. Context-sensitiveapplications use various data from thesurrounding environments and the devices to adapttheir behavior. Using context as a criterion totransparently establish communication links amongdevices requires effective system support. A context-sensitivemiddleware is effective to address theseemerging applications since such a middlewareprovides both development and runtime supports tocontext-sensitive applications in addition to providingthe interoperability in heterogeneous ubicompenvironments. This implies that the object requestbroker (ORB) of the middleware must provide amechanism to provide context-sensitivecommunication among objects. In this paper, theprinciples and software-hardware co-design aspect ofa context-sensitive ORB is presented to facilitatecontext-sensitive communication among applicationobjects in ubicomp environments.
