Abstract

The diffusion of Internet has opened a new era in thedevelopment of distributed systems. Today almost everyapplication is developed on the web. Anyway, theseapplications are conceptually traditional application, since they provide private workspaces that are accessibleremotely, or they support access to shared information.New applications need to be conceived to take fulladvantage of the new technology power. Integration andcollaboration will be the driving keywords. This paperoutlines a project aimed to develop an agent-basedframework to support a new generation of collaborativeknowledge-based applications. The challenge is todevelop an open, lightweight architecture to supportscalable, self-configuring systems.
