Abstract

CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) appears to be a good solution for developing and deploying applications in distributed, heterogeneous environments. This technology is being touted as the real bonanza for the data rich Molecular biology to enhance utilization, management and interoperation between its different resources located in different places. In this paper, we have discussed about the necessity of attaining the true interoperability among different biological data sources with different data models located in different geographical sites. Also we have given a brief overview of CORBA, the ingredients for designing a distributed object that could be abstracted into many self manageable components and the significant role of CORBA in accomplishing the true interoperability among the biological databases. Finally we have given the details about a simple Java router applet and the CORBA-compliant router object which we have designed.
