Abstract

This paper describes how ARIFS tool (ApproximateRetrieval of Incomplete and Formal Specifications)providesa suitable reusing environment to classify, retrieveand adapt formal and incomplete requirements specifications. Both classification and retrieval tasks are based onfunctional similarities according to structural and semanticcloseness. To this effect, we define four partial orderingsamong reusable components and different measures toquantify functional differences among them. By using thesemeasures we are able to offer an approximate and efficientretrieval, without formal proofs, and to predict adaptationefforts to satisfy the required functional specification. Thispaper focus on semantic similarities as they are more remarkablein vertical reuse, that is, the reuse of softwarewithin same domain or application area.
