Abstract

Anycast is defined as a service in IPv6, which providesa stateless best effort delivery of an anycast datagram toat least one host, and preferably only one host. It is atopic gaining increasing interest. This paper is an attemptto gather and report on the work done on anycast. Thereare two main categories at present: network-layeranycast and application-layer anycast. Both of thecategories involve anycast architectures, routingalgorithms, metrics, applications, etc. We also present anefficient algorithm for application-layer anycast. At theend of this paper, we point out the possible researchdirections based on our research.
