Abstract

In packet-switching networks such as the Internet, packetlosses occur due to temporary overload situations of sharedresources. An accurate model of the packet loss behavior isrequired to design effective schemes for packet lossrecovery. In this paper, we propose the employment of aMarkov gap model to model the packet loss process. Theresults indicate that the Markov gap model is moreaccurate than other Markov chain models.
