Abstract

One of the performance factors considered duringnetwork design is availability.There are many ways ofdefining network availability.In this paper, we explainwhy a new measure could be useful, establishrequirements that a new availability measure shouldsatisfy, propose a new measure satisfying theserequirements and give examples of its application to a 3-tierarchitecture.We show how to calculate the measurein polynomial time and give numerical examples.
