In this paper,a method for extracting classdependency i formation from Java class files isdescribed.Advantages and disadvantages of using thismethod are discussed.The problems of virtualdependence and synthetic methods are explained,andsolutions offered.A convenient user interface ispresented for making use of the dependency informationin the form of an i teractive UML class diagram,which isautomatically generated from Java class files.Thisinterface is a component of the jGRASP integrateddevelopment e vironment.
