Abstract

Architecture reconstruction embodies benefits forcommercial organizations. Reconstructing or recovering thearchitecture of software systems is primarily driven by theincreased awareness of software architectures as a blueprintfor systems and the resulting central role of architectures indevelopment paradigms, like software product lines andcomponent-based systems. This is especially the case fororganizations that consciously want to migrate towardssoftware architectures paradigms and enforce them in theirsoftware development life-cycle. This paper introducespractice patterns for architecture reconstruction, whichoffer common problem/solution pairs to strategically applyarchitecture reconstruction at commercial organizations.Based on an investigation of already developed andpresented reconstruction approaches, the paper describesdeficiencies that have been uncovered in several practicepattern's solution space and proposes improvements.
