In this paper we describe "The PublicSound Objects" project and its context.Thisproject, which is currently under development, approaches Internet collaborative musicperformance, going beyond most commonparadigms where the network is mainly used asa channel to provide a connection betweenperformative spaces. The system will provide anon-line public performance space where peoplecan be foun participating in an ongoingcollaborative sonic event. The users connectedto this installation control a server sidesynthesis engine through a web-based interface. The resulting "Sound Objects" form a sonicpiece that is then streamed back to each user. The user takes the role of a performer and hiscontribution has a direct and unique influenceon the overall resulting soundscape.Thisongoing event is also played back at theinstallation for a live audience, with addedcontextual elements such as soundspacialization and metaphorical visualrepresentations of current participants.
