Abstract

The widespread availability of wireless-enabled devices presents many new opportunities for network operators. However, wireless networks that form on the fly without central control or administration can also be very disruptive. As devices further extend their capabilities to include packet forwarding, intelligent routing and to gain an awareness of other device capabilities, a network symbiosis can be formed. This paper provides an overview of symbiotic networks and a summary of BT Exact's findings from building its own test network.
