Abstract

This document presents a formal specification for the RSDIMU, a component of an aircraft inertial navigation system. The specification is written in the Z language. The RSDIMU system consists of a set of eight acceleration sensors, mounted upon the four upright faces of a square based pyramid (i.e. a semi- octohedron), two sensors per face. The purpose of this sensor array is to provide a measure of the current acceleration of the aircraft within which it is mounted. The eight sensors provide redundacy during the estimate of the 3-dimensional acceleration. This redundacy permits valid acceleration estimates in the face of sensor failures and aids in reducing error due to noise in sensor readings.
