Abstract

The analysis of wave motion in infinite homogeneous waveguides, having a cross-section which is not simple, and/or having an irregular inclusion, is by the majority of the available methods a rather difficult task, especially when striving for exact results. On the contrary, the presented procedure, which is in frequency domain, is simple to apply. It yields exact results and a clear parametric insight into wave motion. Radiation conditions are satisfied exactly. The procedure uses FE modelling of the interesting section of the waveguide, and the decomposition of the wave motion into the distinct wavemodes with constant velocities by eigenvalue problem solution. The presented examples demonstrates the effectiveness of the procedure, while analytical results confirm its accuracy.
