Abstract

A CORBA-based distributed object software system wasdeveloped for Sandia's Agile Manufacturing Testbed(SAMT). This information architecture supports the goals ofagile manufacturing: rapid response to changingrequirements; reduction in both time and cost of the productrealization process; and integration within a heterogeneous,wide-area networked enterprise. Features of the resultingsoftware-controlled manufacturing environment are: easyplug-and-play of manufacturing devices, support for bothautomated and manual operations, information flow bothinto and out of manufacturing devices, and a dynamic tasksequencer.
