Design and engineering processes are complex andinherently parallel. There is a need for a frame-workwhich allows the document management for allphases of complex engineering tasks. The first part ofthe paper presents an introduction into the mostchallenging issues of this field. In the second part ofthe paper a case study from the area of carmanufacturing is presented in which intranettechnology is used to support design and engineeringprocesses.
