Natural language (NL) interfaces for DB queryformulation have always been recognized as a muchneeded enhancement for end-users. Poor performanceswith earlier NL systems had led to a lull in researchthis field. However, latter-day experiments and systemsappear to be sufficiently more promising to warrantcontinued and further research in this area. This studyproposes an experimental query interface that filtersquery statements for search predicates that are derivedfrom constructs on conceptual schemas, therebyavoiding the computational difficulty with full-fledgedNL parsing. A prototype of the CQL exists as a frontendto an ORACLE relational DBMS.
