Abstract

As cities become increasingly congested, new housingareas are relocating farther distance from the city centerwhile employment center concentrate or develop in thesuburbia or fringe. The mean commuting distanceincreases in either case resulting in longer journeys towork, stressful commute to work place and heavyinvestments in constructing transportationinfrastructure. This paper examines the emerging factorssuch as transportation and travel problems, urbanconcentration, environmental concern, surge in womenworkforce, investment in road infrastructure, andinformation technology assets which tend to reemphasizethe need for alternative work arrangementsuch as teleworking in Malaysia, Few on-goingresearches on teleworking in Malaysia have beenhighlighted.
