Abstract

As the second generation of electronic commerce, theframework of agent based commerce is proposedSince the communication messages and solutionmethods of agents are significantly influenced by thecontract type, we have defined the grammar ofcontracts first. By using this generalized contractgrammar, we can express new creative contract typesas well as the traditional ones like bids and auctions. The messages in agent based commerce has adoptedthree layers: Agent Communication Language,Electronic Commerce, and Product Specificationlayers. For electronic commerce, the agent is regardedas an extension of expert systems with the additionalcapability of communication control and metaproblem-solving. A prototype of agent based commercedevelopment environment, UNIK-AGENZ is developedto implement the idea. The procedure of messagegeneration and solution method selection is illustratedwith the case of computer purchase.
