Global operation and system control are important issuesin massively parallel systems. This paper discussesvirtual control networks (VCNs), which aresubstitutes for the current dedicated control networks.First we introduce a new mechanism called VirtualControl Channel (VCC) used to conduct informationover data network links. The network nodeshave control finite state machines (CFSMs) and aVCN is composed of CFSMs.The VCC performs therole of a connection wire between CFSMs.The mechanismsare applied to the RWC-1 machine. The simulationresults reveal that reduction and broadcastingoperations are efficiently executed on VCNs by exploitingthe tree structure.
