Many interface designs have been developed for theexploration of multi-dimensional data sets, many basedon finding subsets by filtering attribute valuesindependently or successively. However, many of theseinterfaces do not also support the use of hierarchies forselection and summarisation. This paper shows how aninterface that uses coordinated hierarchy views of datasupports the exploration of such data. Our interface isdemonstrated with our SGViewer tool and a web site logdataset where visits to a web site have been organisedinto time, downloads, visitor address and referreraddress dimensions. A configurable nested treevisualisation is used to present each dimensionhierarchy. We show how both rapid and flexibleexploration of this data is supported by our interface.
