Abstract

Verification and validation (V&V) is only marginallyaddressed in software process improvement models likeCMM and CMMI. A roadmap for the establishment of asound verification and validation process in softwaredevelopment organizations is badly needed. This paperpresents a basis for a roadmap; it describes a frameworkfor improvement of the V&V process, based on theTesting Maturity Model (TMM), but with considerableenhancements. The model, tentatively named MB-V2M2(Metrics Based Verification and Validation MaturityMode)l1, has been initiated by a consortium of industrialcompanies, consultancy & service agencies and anacademic institute, operating and residing in theNetherlands. MB-V2M2 is designed to be universallyapplicable, to unite the strengths of known (Verificationand Validation) improvement models and to reflectproven work practices. It recommends a metrics base toselect process improvements and to track and controlimplementation of improvement actions. This paper outlines the model and addresses thecurrent status.
