XIS is a R&D project which mission is to analyze, develop andevaluate mechanisms and tools to produce information systemsfrom a more efficient and productive way than it is donecurrently. XIS project is influenced by MDA reference model,and is mainly based on three principles: it is based on high-levelmodels specification; it is based on generative programmingtechniques; and it is component-based architecture-centric. XISis not a conceptual research plan, it is a working on project withconcrete results and produced systems. In this paper weoverview the XIS project by introducing its main elements, suchas the XIS approach; XIS platform; XIS/UML profile; andXIS/XML language. Finally, we present the main conclusionsand the work that will be handled in the near future.
