Abstract

The field of information logistics aims at developingconcepts, technologies and applications for need-orientedinformation supply. Information-on-demand services area typical application area for information logistics, asthey have to fulfill user needs with respect to content,location, time and quality. The application context for thispaper is the implementation of the weather-information-on-demand service WIND, providing warnings abouthazardous weather conditions to end customers. Themajor technical aspects presented are (1) an informationlogistical framework consisting of a set of configurableand adaptive software components and (2) a robust andscalable event-reaction mechanism as part of theframework. Experiences from the WIND project includeaspects of system design, development process andoperations.
