The paper deals with a method developed for softwaremaintenance called Remote Maintenance Shell. It allowssoftware installation, modification and verification on theremote target system without suspending its regularoperation. The method is based on remote operationsperformed by mobile agents. The role of RemoteMaintenance Shell in software maintenance is elaborated,as well as its architecture. A case study on versionreplacement of an object-oriented application is included.
