Abstract

A software development project coordinates work by usingwork items that represent customer, tester, and developerfound defects, enhancements, and new features. We setout to facilitate software project planning by modeling theflow of such work items and using information on historicprojects to predict the work flow of an ongoing project. Thehistory of the work items is extracted from problem trackingor configuration management databases. The web-basedprediction tool allows project managers to select relevantpast projects and adjust the prediction based on staffing, type, and schedule of the ongoing project. We present theworkflow model, and briefly describe project prediction of alarge software project for Customer Relationship Management(CRM).
