Abstract

In standard situations, agents in a multi-agent community need tocommunicate each other to accomplish cooperation and coordinationof joint activities. Normally it is expected that each agent cancontact any other using a reliable communication infrastructure.Often one has to think about situations when a communicationsubsystem becomes disintegrated and some agents become isolatedfrom the rest of the community. The paper provides basic analysisof such inaccessibility situations, and reviews possibletechnologies to remedy the resulting difficulties. The concepts ofa so-called doubler agent and stand-in agent for maintaining agentsaccessibility is introduced. A brief discussion on suitability ofthe acquaintance models for maintaining accessibility on a symboliclevel is also touched.
