Cocktailmaps is a visualization method for visualization of communicative behavior in complex communication systems such as human conversation, cocktail parties, parallel computers, and telecommunication networks. Cocktailmaps are space-filling in that they effectively utilize the available screen real estate to communicate properties such as what communicators dominate a communication over time, what topics are communicated, and how agents move between subcommunications. Cocktailmaps have been implemented utilizing the Information Visualization and Exploration Environment (IVEE) which provides users of cocktailmaps with interactive techniques such as zooming, panning, filtering, and details-on-demand.
