Abstract

In this paper we present a database system for IC design that combines an optimal logical organization of the design data with the facilities that are offered by a distributed hardware environment which consists of processors, storage provisions and network facilities. We model the physical, logical and distributed aspects of the hardware environment, yielding an environmental schema. The logical structure of the database system is mapped on this environment, resulting in a distributed data management concept. This concept is illustrated by the architecture of a prototype CAD database system.
