Secure group communication in mobile ad hoc networksis often dynamic and impromptu, and thus requiresefficient and automated secure group management andseamless combination of secure groups with distributedapplications running upon them. Existing approaches tosecure group communication cannot satisfy theserequirements. In this paper, an automated secure groupmanagement approach is presented. Based on thisapproach, a middleware service for secure groupcommunication is developed to facilitate developmentand execution of distributed applications using securegroup communication in mobile ad hoc networks. Thismiddleware service is implemented in a context sensitivemiddleware RCSM.
