Abstract

As wireless networking products and ad-hoc networksbecome more popular, the resource usage in routing packetsfor other network users will become an issue for usersand developers of ad-hoc wireless products. In this paper,we propose a novel monitoring tool called WANMon (WirelessAd-hoc Network Monitoring Tool). WANMon can be installedon a wireless node to monitor resource usage (suchas network usage, power usage, memory usage, and CPUusage) at the node, in the context of how much of resourceis used for supporting the node's own applications versusthe usage for routing data of other network users in an ad-hocwireless network. We discuss design of WANMon, andpresent our prototype implementation of WANMon in Linux, which provides a starting point for further research and abasis for developing a fully featured ad-hoc wireless networkmonitoring tool.
