The authors have been conducting softwareengineering education in the form of group learning in auniversity. We developed a group learning supportsystem and applied it to an actual class. Our experienceshowed us that it was difficult for some groups to developsoftware smoothly, because development was oftenperformed in a distributed environment. Thus weunderstood that awareness to ascertain the situation ofthe other members (including the teaching staff) wasneeded. In this paper, we describe how we considered theawareness support requirements in software engineeringeducation, and provided functions to meet therequirements. In doing so, we applied a group learningsupport system that provided awareness support to anactual class, and found an action pattern in the activityon the system after using awareness support functions. The results we obtained from questionnaires showed thatthe awareness support function was also useful inenabling the members to determine other members'situations.
