Abstract

With the new global economy, manufacturing companiesare focusing their efforts on the product developmentprocess which is fast emerging as a new competitiveweapon. Several product development solutions allow engineers,suppliers, business partners and even customersto collaborate throughout the entire product lifecycle viathe Internet. To gain an additional edge over competitors,it is vital that companies utilize web logs to discoverhidden knowledge about trends and patterns in such a cyberworld.However, existing web log mining techniques arenot designed for web logs generated by product data managementprocesses. In this paper, we propose a methodtermed Product Development Miner (PDMiner) to minesuch web logs efficiently and effectively using a trie structureand sequential mining techniques. Experiments involvingreal web logs show that PDMiner is both fast andpractical.
