We describe an original approach to conceptual document modeling. An abstract view of conceptual modeling is introduced and a method for building a hierarchical system of concepts based on analyzing large text collection and clustering documents is proposed. Then the concepts are employed in indexing documents in order to effectively examine and compare their contents and match them with queries.
