Abstract

In past columns, the authors discussed Grid technology in e-Science (large-scale, distributed scientific research). Here, we make the ideas more concrete by describing how to convert (or build from scratch) a scientific resource (a software program) to a Web service. Modern Grids are built on top of Web services, with interesting refinements captured as open Grid services architecture (OGSA). You easily can extend the open Grid services infrastructure (OGSI) approach we present here to be OGSA compliant.
