Content-based video analysis calls for efficient videorepresentation. In this paper, a novel multi-levelrepresentation of video is proposed based on theprinciple components derived from low-level visualfeatures. It can characterize the video content from thecoarse level to the fine level according to its intrinsicstructure. This representation form provides a flexiblescheme for video content analysis such assummarization, classification, and retrieval. A newlyproposed subspace method, kernel based PCA, isexplored to achieve this conveniently. The applicationin keyframe extraction is investigated to demonstratethe benefits of this representation.
