IP routing lookup Schemes using single-step TCAMused in core routers demand entries being sortedaccording to prefix lengths in descending order relative toTCAM addresses. The sorting operations related toaddresses have disadvantageous affections to the entryupdating speed and lookup continuity. This paper providesa novel IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack routing lookup methodbased on BSPL (Bi-search on Prefix Length), which usingmulti-step TCAM pipelining based on bi-search on prefixlength. Its outstanding advantages include that no entrysorting is needed, lookup speed is high, entry updating iscompleted fast with pipelining, and lookup continuity isenhanced. It satisfies wire-speed (48B-packet) forwardingof OC-768 (40Gbps) interfaces of IPv4/IPv6 dual-stackcore routers.
