A multimedia museum guide system is developed andpresented in the paper. In contrast with conventionalcassette audio tape exhibition tours, the presentedmuseum guide system is implemented on Palm-basedPersonal Digital Assistants (PDAs), so as to provide amultimedia touring experience for visitors. Moreover, themuseum guide system is capable of being aware of thecurrent position of the visitor, and then automaticallyretrieves the related multimedia information of the exhibitthat the visitor is gazing at. As the visitor walks up toanother exhibit, without any clicks or operations, thescreen on the PDA will be changed to the relatedmultimedia information of that exhibit automatically.Basically, the developed museum guide system plays therole of a personal guide assistant, so as to construct themobile learning environment in museums.
