Content-based image retrieval is currently a veryimportant area of research in the area ofmultimedia databases. Plenty of research works had beenundertaken in the past decade to design efficient imageretrieval techniques from the image or multimediadatabases. Although large number of indexing andretrieval techniques have been developed, there is still nouniversally accepted feature extraction, indexing andretrieval techniques available. In this paper, we presentan up-to-date review of various content-based imageretrieval systems. Since the volume of literatureavailable in the field is enormous, only selected worksare mentioned.
