Fault tolerance is essential to the development of reliablemobile agent system in order to guarantee continuousexecution of mobile agents. For this purpose, some previousworks have proposed fault tolerant protocols for mobileagent execution based on stage construction. However, when previous protocols are applied to a multi-region mobileagent computing environment, the overhead of stageworks such as monitoring, election, voting and agreementis increased. In this paper, we propose a region-based stage construction(RBSC) protocol for fault tolerant execution of mobileagents in a multi-region mobile agent computing environment. The RBSC protocol uses new concepts of quasi-participantand substage in order to put together someplaces located in different regions within a stage in the sameregion. Therefore, the RBSC protocol decreases the overheadof stage works. Consequently, the RBSC protocol decreasesthe total execution time of mobile agents.
