Abstract

Berth scheduling and monitoring of the vessel operationsare of paramount importance in order to assure fasterturnaround time and high productivity of any containerterminal. The need for an intelligent system thatdynamically adapts to the changing environment isapparent, as there are a limited number of berths andresources available in container terminals for deliveringservices to vessels. In this paper we discuss how BDI(Beliefs, Desires and Intentions) agents can be supportedwith Neural Network and fuzzy logic in a collaborativeenvironment of a multi agents system for the schedulingand monitoring of vessel berths in container ports.Straightforward plans are handled by the generic BDIarchitecture. Complex planning which requires thelearning and adaptability behavior is modeled withneural networks. Beliefs with fuzzy scenarios aremodeled with fuzzy logic enabling agents to makerational decisions in the environment of uncertainty.Agents can autonomously adapt to the changingenvironment in assigning berths for vessels.
