Abstract

This paper studies a security enhancementof instant messaging service. After therequirements and the assumptions are addressed,a modified Diffie-Hellman protocol suitable to instantmessaging is presented. The main feature ofthe proposed protocol is to prevent malicious administratorfrom intercepting plain message andapplying data mining techniques to obtain privacyof end users. From the viewpoint of communicationand computational costs, the proposed protocolare evaluated and the comparison of someexisting protocols is given. In addition, a trial implementationof secure instant messaging systemis demonstrated.
