Abstract

Distance-based approach is efficient strategy for locationmanagement of mobile hosts in a cellular PCN. But what isthe optimum distance for distance-based location management?Does it depend on cell-size, and/or the movementbehavior of individual user, depending on her movementpattern, more efficient? Or a simple fixed distance for allusers should be adopted? In this work, we have shown that,a fixed distance of 4 is nearly optimum for all the mobilehosts, irrespective of a range of variation of their mobilitybehavior, and the cell size of the network. A more efficientadaptive distance algorithm, where distance is changed accordingto mobility behavior, is proposed at the end.
